How to Know if you have prostate problems
Men with a family background of prostate cancer and older men should see their doctor to have regular screenings. A simple PSA blood test can detect an over-inflated prostate. It can also tell you if you are at risk of developing cancer, or if other medical conditions may require treatment.
If your doctor suspects that you have a prostatic problem, he will want to learn about all of your symptoms and the length of time they have been occurring. They will ask if you experience any pain or burning when you urinate. Also, if you’ve noticed changes in your urine. They may recommend a digital rectal exam (DRE), where a gloved and lubricated finger is placed on the prostate from inside your rectum. This takes around 10-15 seconds.
Symptoms of Prostate Problems
The prostate is an almond-sized gland that can be found in the lower urethra, at the front and the back of the genital penis. It produces semen which is used for the production sperm. The most common prostate problem is benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which occurs when the prostate enlarges and interferes with urine flow. Other symptoms of BPH include painful urination. A weak flow of urine and hesitancy. Some men with BPH also experience a loss of bowel control, which is known as fecal incontinence. A more serious symptom of the prostate is not being able to urinate at all, which is a medical emergency.
Medicine for Prostate Disorders
There are several different medicines available to help treat prostate problems. They can come in the form or tablets or liquids, which are then put into a suppository. The liquid then passes into the bladder via your penis. Saw palmetto is a common medication. It can be purchased in liquid extract or as a herbal supplement. These medications may be used in combination or alone, depending upon your doctor’s recommendation.
Surgery for Prostate Disorders
Surgery may be an option if lifestyle changes and medications do not improve your symptoms. This can be done by your GP or a urologist in a hospital. Your doctor will explain to you the pros and con of each surgery type so that you can decide which is best for your needs. They will also explain other options, such as regular check-ups at your GP’s office or with a urologist in the hospital.
The good thing is that BPH and other prostate problems are not a sign of a cancer. But that does not mean they should be ignored. It’s important to keep up with your regular visits to the GP, as well as having your PSA and DRE tests. These tests are the best way to detect cancer and other conditions before they get serious. If the disease is detected early on, treatments are available that can save a life. This is especially true for prostate cancer. It is usually treatable when caught before it has advanced.
