How To Know If You Have Prostate Problems
Men with a family background of prostate cancer and older men should see their doctor to have regular screenings. A simple blood test called PSA can detect an enlarged prostate. It can also indicate if there is a risk of developing cancer or other medical problems that may need treatment.
If you believe that your doctor has diagnosed you with a prostate condition, they will ask about your symptoms. Tell them how long they have been going on. They will ask if you experience any pain or burning when you urinate. Also, if you’ve noticed changes in your urine. A digital rectal (DRE) may be recommended, in which a finger is placed on your prostate with a lubricated glove from inside your rectum. This takes between 10-15 seconds.
Prostate problems symptoms
The prostate is a walnut-sized gland found in the lower urinary tract, in the front and back of the penis. It’s responsible for producing semen, which is used in the production of sperm. BPH is the most common prostate condition. It occurs when the prostate grows and interferes with the flow of urine. Other symptoms of BPH include painful urination. A weak flow of urine and hesitancy. Fecal incontinence is another symptom of BPH. Not being able to urinate is a more severe symptom.
Medicine for Prostate Problems
There are many different medicines that can be used to help with prostate problems. These medicines can be taken as pills or tablets, but they can also be liquids put into a supppository. The liquid is passed into your bladder through the penis. Saw palmetto comes in both liquid extract and herbal supplements. These medications may be used in combination or alone, depending upon your doctor’s recommendation.
Surgery for Prostate Problems
If lifestyle changes and medicines don’t improve your symptoms, surgery might be an option. This could be done at your GP’s office or by a specialist urologist. Your doctor or specialist will discuss the pros and cons of each type surgery so that you can choose what is right for you. They will explain to you any other options such as regular checkups by your GP or a urologist.
The good news is that BPH, and most other prostate problems, aren’t a sign of cancer. This doesn’t mean that they can be ignored. It is important to continue your regular visits with your GP as well as your PSA/DRE tests. These tests can help detect cancer or other serious conditions early. If the disease is caught early, treatments can save lives. This is true in particular of prostate cancer. If caught early, it is usually treatable.
